A simple care guide for 3D-printed lamps
Printed lamps are easy to live with. A few habits keep them looking new. This guide is general; each lamp's technical sheet lists the details for that piece.
Cleaning
- Dust with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush. A brush reaches into the flutes and ribs.
- For marks, use a slightly damp cloth with a drop of mild soap, then dry it.
- Avoid solvents, alcohol, and rough pads. They can cloud or scratch plastic.
Heat
- The plastics we use soften when they get hot. Keep lamps away from radiators, ovens, open flames and candles.
- Do not leave a lamp in a parked car or in hours of strong sun behind glass.
- Use LED bulbs only, and never more than the maximum watts on the lamp's sheet (for example 5 W for the Shell, 9 W for the Fold).
Power and charging
- Switch off and unplug before you change a bulb.
- Lamps with a rechargeable LED puck charge by USB-C. Keep the puck and cable dry.
- Use lamps indoors and keep them away from water.
Fixing and placing
- Floor lamp: stand it on a flat floor and do not remove the weight in the base.
- Wall lamp: hang it on the two screws and wall plugs it is designed for, and keep the bulb away from the wall as stated on its sheet.
- Pendant: have the ceiling end wired by a licensed electrician.
